So many questions...

So of the many questions that I've been asked this week (can a fish swim in soda pop? what about milk? can we eat clouds?) I got another 'what's that?'. The answer is what I call 'yogurt mix' and it is totally acceptable and satisfies the questioner (I started using it by adding it to my yogurt). The answer to the same question when a grown up asks is, flax seed. Now days I put it in a lot of things.... banana muffins, cookies, breads, etc. and it is a hit. It's benefits are great (<--this link also has recipes although I haven't tried any of them) and since it's not so noticeable the kids are happy to oblige and even want to take turns mixing it in. I get it as whole seeds and bring it myself in a mini grinder. Once it's ground it starts to lose some of it's 'power' so I keep it in the fridge for freshness. Definitely a nice addition to our diets, and oh, did I mention that you can substitute if for part of the fat in your recipes? Nice touch.
Update**
You can sneak in a Tbs here or a 1/4 C. there. It can be substituted for eggs in pancakes, muffins and cookies (1T flax+3T water &let sit for a few minutes) and for fats 3T flax = 1T fat. Your recipes will darken a little faster but you can use your own recipes. I put it in Choc Chip cookies. muffins, breads, etc and the kids (and I) can't tell at all.

Wow! I had no idea it had so many uses! We've been adding it to our smoothies for a while now, but I'm going to have to start throwing it in some other recipes too!
