Okay, so I know that I just did a flax seed post, but today I made chocolate chip cookies and (you guessed it) I added some extras. I used to be terrible at making cookies. Everybody else seemed to make great cookies and even when copying recipes to the T, mine didn't work out until... I started making the Nestle Tollhouse recipe. (No, I don't work for Nestle or anything like that) It is the first CCC recipe that I've tried that is consistently good even when I put other stuff in or use substitutes. Today I made the normal recipe + 1/4 C. flax seed + 1/4 C. shredded coconut and then milk choc chips instead of semi-sweet. They were absolutely fabulous!
Next time I'm going to try substituting flax for part of the fat and Almond meal for part of the flour (FYI also a great addition to baked goods just in case you didn't already know! Coming soon directions for making almond meal which is really just coarsely grinding frozen almonds, okay so that is the method, frozen=no almond butter)

I had the same issues with CC cookies until I used the Mrs. Field's recipe. It's been my favorite one, especially since I love oatmeal in my CC cookies. I even tried the Crisco Ultimate cookie recipe after eating my friends gorgeous finished product, but to no avail as mine came out as greasy, unappetizing blobs of baked dough.
I made Neslte cookies yesterday and they turned out great. I used to be really lazy and would just buy the Nestle dough. I prefer the homemade dough over the store bought. I will have to try and fancy them up.
